Liam Payne is looking great and he sounds good but surely we can’t be alone in having expected a lot more from his first solo single Strip That Down? Yes, we get that he’s happy with the cards he’s been dealt – I mean it’s fair to say he’s had a pretty good hand – but it sure doesn’t make for an interesting song. The love struck lyrics seem at odds with the guest interludes from rapper Quavo and the bump-and-grind chorus, the 1D reference is a jaw clencher and the song just doesn’t go anywhere. Considering Liam was pegged as one of the real talents in One Direction and he’s the last member to get round to releasing a solo single, we never expected something as generic and vapid as Strip That Down.
