Blondie have paired up with Dev Hynes for the latest single from their upcoming eleventh studio album Pollinator which will arrive 5 May. Written by Debbie Harry with the Blood Orange performer, the synth-peppered Long Time catches the band playing straight to their disco-punk strengths and still creating illuminating pop sounds, over forty years after they released their debut.
The new album also features tracks penned by Charli XCX, Sia, Johnny Marr and The Strokes’ Nick Valensi; songs curated by the band with founding Blondie member and lead guitarist Chris Stein saying that they didn’t want the music to suffer when they could work with some of pop’s leading songwriters.
“We thought to ask people because there’s so much good music swirling about”, rather than it being a result of running thin on ideas.”
Long Time follows the release of the record’s lead single Fun which came out earlier this year, and the trailblazing band will co-headline two New Zealand concerts next month in Christchurch and Auckland, along with fellow icon Cyndi Lauper.
