It’s been over four years since No Doubt put out their last record Push and Shove and, while Gwen Stefani returning to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 last year with her third studio album (This Is What The Truth Feels Like), remaining band mates Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont and Adrian Young have been busy bringing to fruition their own new side project DREAMCAR who are set to play Coachella next month.
The band is completed by the arrival of AFI frontman Dave Havok who takes charge on lead vocals for DREAMCAR’s debut single Kill for Candy which is out today. The song’s sound is marked by irresistibly 80s new wave and rock influences – a far cry from Havok’s own back catalogue and No Doubt’s ska-pop roots – but Kill for Candy undoubtedly feels like it could fill an entire stadium, with its roof-raising pop chorus and anthemic production.
Speaking of the band’s upcoming debut album, Kanal said in an earlier statement “I can’t stop listening to it, so that’s always a good sign for me. When I’ve worked on something that I can’t stop listening to—and that I want to get in my car and listen to—it always makes me feel really good. You have this excitement to share it with everybody.”
