The two Anders from Alphabeat have released a number of solid singles already this year as part of their new project THANKS (remember that Jill Scott revival?), but their latest sees the now duo calling on Aussie maestro Sam Sparro for their best yet.
“You’re so cool – did you come from the freezer?,” opens the Black and Gold singer, setting the scene with one of a number of intentionally cheesy chat up lines, delivered with his soulful, cool croon over fizzing electronics and funky guitar riffs. Magic happens on the chorus though, when Sparro deploys that falsetto and reminds us that he’s still one of the most powerful and overlooked vocalists around, plus there’s that rapturous and celebratory spoken word middle section which feels quite important right now:
“Love will bring us together, and not tear us apart. Love can break down walls and it can move mountains. Love has no fears and it cannot falter. Somebody give it up for love.”
Amen to that and to this triumphant union of three pop giants, who continue to turn out the goods.
