MNEK – At Night (I Think About You)

With a heaving back catalogue of production and songwriting credits on some of the UK’s biggest club and pop hits from the past four years and some ruddy good refixes under his belt, it’s hard to believe that the ridiculously prolific Uzo Emenike is just 21 years old. But, despite dropping a fair few bangers of his own during that time and some guest vocals on other people’s hits, it’s been his latest team up with Swedish pop star Zara Larsson on Never Forget You that has given the Londoner a long-overdue nudge in to the limelight as a performer in his own right.

Released today, At Night (I Think About You) is essential listening for anyone who has surrendered their playlists to the recent invasion of 90s influenced house music which MNEK has played a determining role in resurrecting. The slow build from its summery percussion rhythms to its banging chorus will sound as fresh on the radio as it will on the dancefloor, but it’s the stratospheric range of his top-quality vocal – whether it’s booming, soaring or chucking out those charismatic ad-libs – that impresses the most and looks set to cement his position as one of the UK’s biggest and brightest stars.
