Calypso – Numbered

Before striking out to go it alone, Tasmanian singer-songwriter Calypso was a member of Hobart-based band S L O W but, if her debut solo single Numbered is anything to go by, she’s more than ready to make a splash on her own terms.

The lead cut from Calypso’s June-bound debut EP opens with thudding piano keys and brooding, soulful vocal swells, the percussion quickly succumbing to an influx of electronic beats and funky guitar rhythms which set the track’s exhilarating pace. AAAAAAND, if that wasn’t enough, there’s a very generous helping of sax breaks.

Says Calypso:

“The story behind Numbered is quite obvious through the lyrics in the song; it’s about the struggle between two people as their love for each other is coming to an end – the painful experience of wanting to keep somebody close, but knowing that you will eventually have to let go”

A beaut.
