Where Donna Missal’s ferocious career launcher Keep Lying last year introduced us to the full force of the New Jersey singer’s weighty, talents, her second original offering Sick – unveiled today – shows us that she’s just as comfortable playing things on the down low.
The brooding, percussion-driven number still exudes the smokiness of its predecessor, but Missal refrains from going full throttle, instead choosing to flex the sultrier side of her vocals. Plus it arrives with news of further live shows, which she seems more than ready for.
“I’ve been writing and reading and listening more than ever in the last few months, really expanding and stretching my imagination towards music and what it means to be creative,” she explained in an email to The FADER. “It’s exciting to be putting this out—my second ever original song release. Sick feels like it lives in this strange place between genres, which is what interests me about music and art today.”
