Jake Houlsby has announced plans to release his new single Carousel on 15 April, as the follow up to his debut EP Yannina.
The Newcastle-bred folk singer’s latest offering was produced by Mick Ross who is also working on Houlsby’s upcoming second set; a collection that he admits is outside of his comfort zone but is equally helping him to trust his instincts.
“When I wrote Carousel I thought they were the best lyrics I would ever write,” he writes modestly on his Tumblr. “I still kind of think that. They’re very ‘me’, anyway, so I’m relieved people haven’t rejected them. A lot of the feedback I’ve had have centred on the lyrics which means the world to me.”
The positive feedback and support gained from artists and music critics alike following his debut are justly received, and Carousel should rightly earn Houlsby plenty of new fans; its unhurried flow of beautifully-penned snapshot lyrics nestling amidst an intimate guitar arrangement and conveying the musician’s humble, self-effacing approach to his music.
Houlsby will celebrate the release of his single, also available on CD featuring bonus b-side Sabinal, with an official launch show at Tynemouth Surf Cafe on 15 April and tickets are still available from his official website.
