Abby Christodoulou and Hannah Cosgrove make up New Zealand country duo Mae Valley who formed during the second season of X Factor New Zealand which aired last year.
The pair eventually placed seventh in the contest under the guidance of their mentor Shelton Woolright (I Am Giant) who championed the pair’s Nashville-influenced sound, saying it represented an increasing demand for country music, and country artists in New Zealand.
Next week (18 March), Mae Valley release their self-titled debut EP which features their debut single Brightside and now there’s a music video for the track which has a bit of a First Aid Kit quality about it – you’d definitely not think it was from two strangers who were put together twelve months ago for a telly show.
Brimming with positive affirmations, airtight harmonies and sparkling pop melodies as well as buoyant banjo twangs and rallying percussion, Abby and Hannah’s wholesome debut radiates and glows, and positions them as a potential force to be reckoned with on the New Zealand country music scene.
