With its steel drums and colourful synths, New York-based singer King Deco is on to a bright and breezy winner with her calypso-vibing new single Castaway which premiered on Billboard this week.
Originally hailing from Jordan, the up-and-coming talent – whose real name is Dana Salah – has worked with Larzz Principato (Halsey’s New Americana) and NYC songwriting duo Kinetics & One Love (B.o.B’s Airplanes) since moving to the States when she was 17, plus she’s featured on tracks from ROOM8 and Sound Remedy.
Speaking about Castaway, King Deco says:
“A lot of my music has to do with the idea of breaking free and growing the courage to go against the grain when you need to. It also explores what it’s like to be a woman in number of different situations. I rarely write straight up love songs but when I do I like to approach it in a very fun, comedic, tongue-in-cheek kind of way.”
