Spill Your Colors may be the debut single from new US synthpop duo Reyna but, if you’re from Milwaukee, then you won’t necessarily be a stranger to the sisters fronting the new band.
In their former musical incarnation, Victoriah and Hannah Gabriela Banuelos fronted pop rock outfit Vic and Gab and during their tenure in the trio, they performed for Barrack Obama and showcased their material in front of audiences at South by Southwest. Now though they’ve set their sights on broader horizons, and snared a spot on the roster of NZ/US management agency Saiko – the team who steered Lorde to international success and currently have LEISURE, Parson James and Glades signed to their books.
Abundant with glistening synths, generously catchy hooks and warm, effervescent vocals, there’s plenty of mainstream appeal here but there’s also a youthful wistfulness behind the lyrics which, according to Vic, are about growing up into the person that you want to be.
“Maybe you’ve been influenced in the past by things that you really didn’t believe in, but now you have grown into who you are and you can make your own choices. It’s about accepting your differences and your uniqueness, because at the end of the day, you’re the one who makes yourself happy.”
