Tomorrow, I’ll be heading down to Auckland’s Silo Park to catch a whole host of artists who I’ve been looking forward to seeing live for some time now.
Laneway Festival is back in New Zealand in 2016 for its fifth year at the waterfront venue, and the line up is rich with both homegrown and international talent. Among those performing are Grimes, Shamir, Beach House and CHVRCHES whose 2015 albums ranked highly on many publications’ end of year Best of countdowns.
Then you have Kiwi artists like 18 year old Wellington musician Lontalius and slinky Auckland trip-hop band LEISURE – both acts who have seen their stock rise over the past twelve months, and are undoubtedly domestic talents worth keeping your eye out for. With the former set to release his debut album I’ll Forget 17 in a matter of months and the latter having just spent time in America playing to sold out venues, I’m sure it won’t be too hard to keep your finger on the pulse.
There will of course be the inevitable clashes – I’ve already had to make a tough decision between Grimes and Beach House – but with a line up like this, there’s no chance I’ll be leaving disappointed. And there’s a Laneway Festival app that you can download which will help you to schedule your day, provides maps of the venue, and send you notifications fifteen minutes before your favourites are due to come on stage so you don’t miss out.
If you’re heading to Laneway in Auckland tomorrow and aren’t sure who to see, the Spotify playlist below may help you decide. Perhaps I’ll see you there.
