Trying to come up with different ways to express how excited I am about the upcoming School of Seven Bells album SVIIB is getting harder and harder with every new song that I hear from the record.
Ablaze is the latest countdown single from the collection which comes out on 26 February and it’s yet another sublime piece of deliriously wonderful synth-strong pop music that follows hot on the heels of previous cuts Open Your Eyes and On My Heart.
The lyrics to the song paint a searing, emotional tribute to the binding relationship between singer Alejandra Deheza and bandmate Benjamin Curtis who was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma shortly after the pair started writing the record in 2012, and lost his battle with the disease in 2013.
Benjamin and I wrote this record during a tour break in the summer of 2012. I can easily say that it was one of the most creative and inspired summers of our lives. What followed was the most tragic, soul shaking tidal wave that life could deliver, but even that wouldn’t stop the vision for this record from being realized. This is a love letter from start to finish. It’s the story of us starting from that first day we met in 2004, and that’s the story of School of Seven Bells. So much love to all of you. Thank you for being a constant light in our lives.
This record is for you.
