Will Young has recorded a version of Jackie Deshannon’s What The World Needs Now Is Love to help raise money and awareness for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
The powerful clip for Young’s heartfelt take on the Burt Bacarach and Hal David-penned 1965 classic premiered at the weekend and sees him singing in front of a large screen playing video footage of some of the world’s most endangered animals and their natural habitats.
“It’s shocking to think that in my lifetime global wildlife populations have declined by over 50% and our forests and oceans remain at risk. If we actually stop and think about that, it’s a real wake up call. Ultimately that’s what the world needs now – every single one of us to take action and protect our world for future generations.”
Set for its official iTunes release on 27 November, What The World Needs Now also features on the deluxe edition of the singer-songwriter’s latest album 85% Proof which shot to the top of the UK album chart upon its release earlier this year and has spawned the singles Love Revolution, Thank You and Joy.
