New Zealand country duo Mae Valley release debut single Brightside:

Mae Valley are Abby Christodoulou and Hannah Cosgrove, a new Kiwi country duo who formed during the second season of X Factor New Zealand which aired earlier this year.

The twosome eventually placed seventh in the contest under the guidance of their mentor Shelton Woolright (I Am Giant) who championed the pair’s Nashville-influenced sound, saying it represented an increasing demand for country music, and country artists in New Zealand.

And now, this week, Mae Valley have released their debut single Brightside to iTunes and it’s indeed a top notch first offering that has a bit of a First Aid Kit quality about it – you’d definitely not think it was from two strangers who were put together ten months ago for a telly show.

Brimming with positive affirmations, airtight harmonies and sparkling pop melodies as well as buoyant banjo twangs and rallying percussion, Abby and Hannah’s wholesome debut radiates and glows, and positions them as a potential force to be reckoned with on the New Zealand pop music scene.
