Taken from the upcoming James Bond film Spectre, the lushly orchestrated – and suitably dramatic – track received its first radio play today (25 September), ahead of the film’s release on 26 October.
It was confirmed earlier this month that the British singer-songwriter would be the latest star to record a song for the movie franchise, despite having denied his involvement for several month prior.
Writing’s on the Wall was written by Smith with its producers, and his regular collaborators, Jimmy Napes and Disclosure’s Guy and Howard Lawrence.
“I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations,” he said once the news was revealed. “I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it.”
Whilst a 007 theme has yet to top the UK charts, Adele’s 2012 offering Skyfall became the first to take home the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Song, and also earned the singer a Grammy Award and Brit Award to complete the set.
