Jamie Woon has shared his new single Sharpness online ahead of its 11 August release, serving as the first taster from the British singer-songwriter’s second studio album which will reach stores later this year via PMR.
The track has benefited from some high profile promo courtesy of both Pharrell Williams and Disclosure – the former having played it on his Beats 1 radio show whilst the electronic dance duo gave the song a spin during a recent appearance on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 slot.
The 32 year old Londoner’s debut LP Mirrorwriting reached #15 on the UK album chart upon its release in 2011 and, the same year, Woon was nominated for Best Newcomer at the MOBOs and was shortlisted for the BBC’s Sound of 2011 where he placed fourth behind The Vaccines, James Blake and winner Jessie J.
A press release promises that the new record will deliver ‘the same distinctive Woon sound and thoughtful/crafted songwriting’ but with a ‘live and up-close approach to the rhythm section in a move away from his previously mostly electronic underpinning’.
