Give Me Something is only Jarryd James’ second single but the Brisbane-raised singer-songwriter has already marked himself as one of the hottest new talents to come out of the Southern Hemisphere in 2015 thanks to the success of his pulsing, debut offering Do You Remember which reached #2 on Australia’s ARIA chart.
Signed to the same Auckland-based management company as 2014 breakthrough act Broods and producer Joel Little, James is already surrounded by some of the best in the business at crafting current, electronic R&B and Little’s influences are clear on this slow burning take of unrequited love.
But then throw in Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange producer Malay, who is also on hand to put the finishing touches to James’ full length debut, and you’ll see why things look set to start getting even more exciting for the relative newcomer.
“I’ve got a pretty good bunch of songs that make up the album and I’m always trying to outdo myself, so I’m going to try and write something better,” said James, rather humbly, earlier this year about the incoming LP.
Judging by the superb quality of his first two releases, that means we have every bit as much reason to be as excited as we already are.
