Demi Lovato’s Cool For The Summer – one of the best pop songs you’ll hear all year:

Is Demi Lovato’s Cool For The Summer one of the best pop songs of the year so far? You’re damned right, it is.

Like a one woman machine powered by pop cog turners Girls Aloud and Katy Perry, Lovato’s latest lands with a bigger impact than anything she’s done before and, with four US top five albums and songs like Skyscraper and Heart Attack under her belt, that makes for a pretty impressive comeback.

Opening with a sweet, tinkling piano melody, Cool For The Summer quickly levels up to unload a torrent of cascading synths over which Lovato coaxes and coos, before an expertly-timed karate chop kapow blasts a barrage of cranked up, crunching electronics and that blitzing, beast of a chorus in to the ears.

Choral cat calls and toying, hushed whispers add even more bulk to this summer smash, which was of course produced by pop supremo Max Martin.

Download it now – unless you’re in the UK and so have to wait until 4 September – or catch the lyric video below.
