A1 have released a new single, written by a contestant of a new Norwegian reality show called The Hit.
Critical Love was written by 24 year old Mathilde Johnson, for the televised songwriting contest and was originally called Physical Love. It was retitled after the Brit Award-winning band, famous for the UK hits Caught In The Middle and Same Old Brand New You, selected it as the strongest of six entries in the competition.
The NRK-broadcast show sees two established artists each week choosing songs written by unknown songwriters, and performing the track live. An audience vote then determines which act goes through to the grand final, and A1 got the most votes this weekend.
Despite an appearance in last year’s season of ITV2 show The Big Reunion, A1 actually reunited as a trio in 2009 and subsequently recorded and released two albums exclusively in Norway. Waiting For Daylight and its title track reached #5 on the Norwegian album and singles chart in 2010 whilst two years later, their follow up Rediscovered reached #17 and it’s lead single Trust Me peaked at #4.
